Dr Dan Mirman
Personal Chair of Brain and Language
University of Edinburgh
Professor Dan Mirman is Personal Chair of Brain and Language at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the neural basis of language processing and language impairments. He has studied different levels of language processing, from recognising speech sounds to understanding full stories, using different methods (behavioural experiments, eye-tracking, and brain imaging). His current research is particularly interested in real-world language processing, such as understanding long narratives (such as books and films), aesthetic responses to poetic language, and the communication strategies used by people with aphasia, an acquired language impairment that often occurs after stroke. Dan’s role on the GLaD project is as a co-investigator, with Dr John Perry, of a sub-project investigating strategies for successful communication in aphasia.
