Dr Caitriana Nicholson

Dr Caitriana Nicholson holds a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics and an MSc in Science & Religion, and is interested in cross-disciplinary research between the natural sciences and humanities, especially in cross-cultural contexts. Her previous research has included the use of science by Protestant missionaries in China in the late 19th and early 20th century; and distributed data management for high energy physics experiments, including the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, CERN, Switzerland, and the BESIII experiment at the Institute for High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.
A bilingual Gaelic/English speaker, Caitriana is Gaelic Research Assistant for the Multilingualism & Religious Experience team. Based in the Western Isles, she has been conducting fieldwork among Gaelic speakers in Scotland, including one-to-one interviews and focus groups, as well as preparing the Gaelic-language elements of the quantitative study.
